Goops and Sauces and Ceramic Masks

Making a dozen new ceramic masks.

The first group are in the kiln right now.

Checking out my glazes.

Makes me think of goops and sauces. My last group of vases were two colors only. This group calls for a big variety of colors.

Yellow, gold, black, green, blue, orange, tan and white. Almost every one got blue eyes except the devil had green. Lips are orange and everyone got black eyes lined.

There are four left that haven’t been bisqued yet. After seeing the first group, the palette may shift.

So more about goops and sauces. The glazes dry out and need to be rehydrated. The surface can have a big dry crack and the rehydration is done with a lot of stirring.

The change is really fun to watch.

Four of the  masks still in Greenware state.
Three of the masks bisqued with glazed on them before firing to Cone 5
Five new masks and a platter
The devil is so shiny.

Who do they look like to you? Recognize anyone?

Masks by Joyce Lieberman

Top right is from 2021, almost all gold with tangerine lips. The other five are new. I think I like the ones with more white, makes a fine contrast.

Portrait of Mark Savage as a clown upon request. Still in the green ware state here.
Glazed the piece above, a portrait from a friend’s selfie as a clown. I ad libbed the clown.
