The French Cat Show

Vida and David visited the studio yesterday in search of the perfect piece for Vida’s home. We went through many works on paper and found a piece from “September Morning” series in 1990. These were moody watercolor bleed type acrylic paintings done in my Venice Garden after the death of my beloved cat. David has a beautiful cat and he showed me her photo. I shared “Geranium Heaven” with him and he was interested in seeing more cat paintings. He asked me what my style of painting was called and I said it was influenced by Matisse, Chagall and Dufy. I called it Contemporary French Classic. I feed feral cats on my porch, I have book ended the show of paintings with a photo of two of the cats I have known recently. The last one has recently passed and the first has come to take his place. In between are some light hearted pieces that feel French influenced among my collection.
