In March of 2019, I went to the park with the French artist Martha Holden to make some plain air paintings. We went around a pond with ducks and swans and over a little red foot bridge and by a grove of birch trees. I also snapped a few photos to use in the studio. I made a few paintings on paper back in the studio. One simple grove of trees became my computer screensaver and this last week, I revisited the image onto a small stretched canvas, 20 x 20″. Here is the new piece. I like the grid the horizon line makes with vertical dancing tree lines. A friend suggested they seemed like Klimt and Munch, which I think is high praise.
